Union Cabinet Minister of Food Processing inaugurated the Kisan Mela

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bathinda organized District Level Kisan Mela on 18.02.2019 in which more than 500 farmers and farm women participate with full enthuse. Smt. Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Hon’ble Union Cabinet Minister of Food Processing, Govt. of India was chief guest during the occasion. Smt. Badal visited demonstrations on wheat sown with Happy Seeder and fields managed with eco-friendly methods of rice residue management and also interacted with farm women and young entrepreneurs.

In her inaugural speech, Smt. Badal stressed upon the need of value addition and processing of farm produce. She said that there is lot of scope of value addition and processing of farm produce in the state like Punjab as the farmers of the state self reliant and are very hard workers. Further, she informed that the horticultural produce is very prone to spoilage due to its perishable nature and its value addition/ processing can be beneficial for producers.  She informed the gathering about various beneficial schemes of subsidies provided by Ministry of Food Processing Industries, GOI. She made the farmers aware of cold chains and mega food parks sanctioned for the state of Punjab as it will increase scope for the local farmers especially beekeepers, fruit/ vegetable growers, potato growers and dairy farmers etc. She landed the role of KVK in guiding the farming community and motivating rural youth for entrepreneurship development through ARYA.

Earlier, Dr J. S. Mahal, DEE, PAU, Ludhiana while welcoming the dignitaries, stressed upon value addition of sugarcane juice for making Gur, Shakkar, Gacchak and many other products. He appreciated the team of KVK Bathinda for their work in management of whitefly and eco-friendly management of rice residue in district Bathinda.

Later on, Smt. Badal awarded prominent rice-residue managers of Bathinda who are practicing non-burning methods of rice residue from last many years. In the end,  Dr J. S. Brar, Associate Director, KVK Bathinda thanked famers, KVK team and media for their support in organizing the mela.
