Review Workshop of Cluster FLDs on Pulses and Oilseeds projects organized

ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana organized a Review Workshop of CFLD Pulses and Oilseeds projects for the Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) of Punjab at Ludhiana. Dr. W. S. Dhillon, ADG (Horticulture Sciences) was the Chief Guest of the programme.

Dr. Rajbir Singh formally welcomed all the participants and appreciated KVKs for successfully conducting the demonstrations under the projects. He stressed on selecting appropriate locations for conducting demonstrations so as ensure speedy adoption of improved pulses cultivation technologies. He urged KVKs to multiply seeds of new varieties at their farms and use that seed for conducting demonstrations.

Dr. W. S. Dhillon congratulated KVK for the work they are doing and highlighted incidences where different organizations have recognized the importance of KVKs at grass root level. He guided participant about the priorities of the government at national level and expectation from the KVKs at the grass-root level. Dr. Dhillon also sensitized participants about the importance of seed exchange among the farmers for sustainable pulses production. He informed that KVKs can use withdrawal strategy by developing sustainable mechanism of pulses and oilseeds at cluster level. He urged KVKs to conduct FLDs in areas of specific need and to document success stories at the end. He also asked KVKs to perform soil testing before laying the FLDs and to study the effect of growing pulse on soil health. At last, he appreciated KVKs of Punjab for their untiring efforts for the benefit of farmers.

Scientists from KVKs presented the achievements of kharif season 2018-19 under the CFLD Pulses and Oilseeds projects, ongoing activities in rabi and action plan for the summer. Presentations were followed by detailed discussion and critical review of the technologies demonstrated, varieties used, funds utilized etc. Around 50 participants including Programme Coordinators and Scientists of KVK and Scientists from ATARI, Ludhiana participated in the meeting.
